HANDS ON APPROACH GIVES KEALBA STUDENTS A HEAD START
The hospitality course at Kealba is well recognised as a success story because the students don’t have to wait until they leave school to gain the benefits of what they learn. Year 11’s and 12’s are already out and working and gaining vital experience for their careers in the hospitality industry. So far students have completed many paid catering jobs for clients such as:

  • Careers Expo at VUT

  • Urban Land AuthoUrity

  • Neighbouring primary schools

  • Regional Principal lunches

  • Kealba staff lunches

Work experience is a vital and compulsory part of the course and students have spent time at:

  • Hotel Sofitel

  • Grand Hyatt

  • Carlton Crest

  • Keilor Hotel

  • Kealba Pub

The Kealba course focuses on the food stream and students are preparing to become chefs or waiters, but can still access hotel management, customer relations and front of house positions. The broad range of subjects include housekeeping, front office, security, food & beverage, kitchen, cashiering and front & back of house.

The future job prospects for catering & hospitality are excellent and students will be prepared for placements in hotels, bars, clubs, restaurants, hospitals or just about anywhere where serving people is involved.

First hand experience makes all the difference.
