Principal's Report
Parent Teacher Interviews
Over the next few weeks, teachers will be preparing Interim Mid Semester Reports. We will hold parent teacher interviews on Wednesday 16th September.
This is the last formal opportunity, for the year, for parents and teachers to meet together to discuss student progress.
End of Semester written reports will be distributed to students on December 14th.
All parents/guardians are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
Parent Surveys
A randomly selected group of parents will receive surveys in the week beginning 24th August. Please fill them out carefully and return them to the college.
City Week
From the 7th to 10th September all of our Year 10 students will participate in our “City Week” program. Students meet in the CBD every day and undertake a wide variety of activities. These include visits to places of interest and career related visits.
This year’s program includes visits to the National Sports Museum, the Melbourne Museum and the Magistrates Court. It also includes tours of Eureka Tower and Federation Square.
In terms of career planning, students can visit William Angliss, RMIT and Melbourne University.
There is a basic cost of $20 plus additional costs depending on the activities a student selects.
Please contact Debbie Kelly or Sue O’Reilly if you haven’t received information or if you have any questions.
Improving Reading
The Western Metro-politan Region of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Develop-ment has committed itself to improving Literacy for students across our Region. Principals and teachers are involved in extensive training aimed at improving students reading and comprehension skills.
Parents can contribute by encouraging their child to read at home. Research shows that students who read widely and frequently are high achievers.
Students who read for at least 30 minutes per day outside school and for their own interest will be more engaged in their learning at school and achieve better results.

Smoking & Cancer
Secondhand smoke has been confirmed as a cause of cancer in humans. Secondhand smoke is a cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Evidence suggests that secondhand smoke may be a cause of nasal sinus cancer and breast cancer in younger women, but more research is needed before these findings can be confirmed. Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among Australian women.
